Statement: Ahead of Trump Visit to Phoenix, Diego Rodriguez, candidate for Maricopa County Attorney, Denounces his Dangerous and Divisive Policies Against Latino Community

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PHOENIX, AZ – AUGUST 31, 2016 – Today, the Rodriguez 2016 campaign released the following statement by Candidate for Maricopa County Attorney, Diego Rodriguez:

"Donald Trump’s fear based and divisive rhetoric towards the Latino community is nothing new to those of us who have lived with Sheriff Arpaio and our current Maricopa County Attorney, Bill Montgomery.

Like Montgomery and Arpaio, Trump hopes to use his elected office as a political tool against people of color. As a result of the policies of the Maricopa County Attorney and Sheriff’s Office, the trust between the Latino community, 30% of our county’s population, and law enforcement, has been substantially compromised.

This poor relationship between these politicians, the law enforcement, and our community in Arizona puts us all in danger. For the good of everyone who lives in our county, we must move Maricopa County beyond the fearful and divisive policies of politicians like Donald Trump, Joe Arpaio and Bill Montgomery who have kept our community divided for too long."

Statement: Diego Rodriguez, candidate for Maricopa County Attorney Responds to Harvard Death-Penalty Study of Maricopa County Prosecutors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PHOENIX, AZ – AUGUST 24, 2016 – Today, the Rodriguez 2016 campaign released the following statement by Candidate for Maricopa County Attorney, Diego Rodriguez:

"As a former homicide prosecutor I know the kind of focus and effort that is required to convict someone of murder without compromising justice. The recent report issued by the Harvard Fair Punishment Project about the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is a clear statement that justice isn’t being served in our county. The office of the county attorney is where our communal sense of justice meets the real world and we must do better than our current county attorney.

I remain committed to my position that when I am elected as Maricopa County Attorney I will impose an immediate moratorium on all current and pending death penalty cases in order to reassess whether the cases are truly the “worst of the worst” and also because the people of Maricopa county can no longer trust Mr. Montgomery’s judgment or ability to properly administer justice."
